Website development can seem tricky. There are lots of ways for you to develop your dream website, with varying degrees of cost, skills needed and time required. But in reality website development is a fairly straightforward process, when done by the professionals, and we’re here to help you make the best decision about your website development. Take a look at some of our top tips below!
Choosing your developer
Building your own website may seem like a good idea, but trust us it’s not. Choosing a developer can be an overwhelming process, as there are lots of agencies and freelancers out there with more than enough capability of creating your website. But, stop and think for yourself, what, or who, is going to be best for me?
Choosing a development team who are personable is important. You want to be able to get on well with your team and share a mutual understanding of what your website should be and how they are going to achieve it. Employing a professional to do the job is the best way to achieve these goals.
You should always ask for examples of work that they have completed, if they only have 5 or 6 websites in their portfolio, then I would question if they had enough experience to get the job done. Also asking to speak to current customers is good practise.
We understand that the cost can be an issue, but think of it like this, how much time would it take you to work on your website yourself? And how much would that cost you in terms of time and money? The likelihood is that it will be a lot and you are best doing what you do best whilst the agency build your website for you.
A well-established and experienced agency will always quote you the best price; remember they are the professionals and know the development costs and necessary time-scales. Just because someone is offering you a cheaper deal it doesn’t mean you should take it. Often, the rule of thumb applies where the lower the cost the lower the quality, meaning you get what you pay for.
Best advice; never choose on price, if you go out for a steak and you see what for £4 and another for £36, which would you pick?
Website development can go down several paths. Whether you choose to have a custom-build bespoke website or simply want something easy to edit, built on a content management system such as WordPress.
Writing down your overall aim of the website and discussing it with your development team you will be able to come to agreement as to what direction would be most suitable. Without working with a website development agency or team you’ll almost certainly be walking into development blind.
